70% of the employees of Roșia Montană Gold Corporation start technical unemployment
Documents: Press releace - 16.02.2015
Bucharest/ Roșia Montană,16 February 2015 – Starting 17 February 2015, 70% of the Roșia Montană Gold Corporation (RMGC) employees will enter a phase of technical unemployment based on temporary suspension of their employment contracts for an indeterminate period. The technical unemployment measure is due to the continuing uncertainty with regard to the authorisation timeline of the Rosia Montana mining project (Project), requiring further action to reduce the company’s activities and related costs.
RMGC reaffirms its commitment to building the most modern mine in Romania and hopes that the decision makers from within the Romanian Government and regulatory authorities directly responsible for authorizing the development of the Project would engage in consultations as soon as possible.
RMGC proposes that the Project will utilise modern „best available technology”, and, as designed, it will comply with or exceed all relevant Romanian and European Union legislation, as well as the highest global industrial standards applicable to environmental protection and rehabilitation. RMGC proposes a specific programme for the conservation of the most important cultural patrimony assets in Rosia Montana and their integration for the long-term benefit of the local community. RMGC is prepared to demonstrate once again all the above during its dialogue with Romanian authorities.
