Roșia Montană Gold Corporation starts a new collective layoff wave
Documents: Press release - 01.04.2015
Bucharest/ Roșia Montană, 1 April 2015 – Roşia Montană Gold Corporation (RMGC) has notified both the “Future of Mining” Trade Union and the labor authorities on the initiation of the collective layoff procedure for a percentage of approximately 35% of the remaining employees of the company, with the final number being determined after the completion of the negotiations with the trade union. Thus, one year after the collective layoffs in March 2014, when 1,000 families remained without an essential source of income in Rosia Montana area, RMGC is constrained to continue the layoffs because of the unjustifiably long delays in the assessment and permitting of the gold mining project, despite all company’s efforts.
At the same time, Roşia Montană Gold Corporation reaffirms its willingness to develop the most modern gold mine in Romania, and hopes that the decision makers will engage in consultations as soon as possible.
